Risks & Benefits of Receiving CYC-P Services

Virtual Private Practice – Ontario

This section helps you make an informed decision about accessing Child and Youth Care services with me.

---

What Is Child & Youth Care?

Child & Youth Care (CYC) focuses on relational, strengths-based, trauma-informed support for children, youth, and families. I provide:

Skill-building

Emotional regulation support

Behavioural and social strategies

Parent coaching

Advocacy and system navigation

Developmental and relational support

I do not provide psychotherapy unless I am working under my separate registration as an RSW. CYC-P services alone are not psychotherapy.

Virtual care offers privacy, comfort, shorter wait times, and access from anywhere in Ontario.

I focus on safety, empowerment, and respect rather than labels or pathologizing.

5. Youth-Friendly Engagement

Virtual sessions often feel safer and less intimidating for young people.

Your privacy is protected. Your goals and voice lead the work.

7. Advocacy & System Support

I can collaborate with schools, service providers, and community supports (with consent).

⚠️ Risks and Limitations

1. Not a Substitute for Psychotherapy or Medical Care

CYC-P work does not include diagnosis or controlled acts. I will refer when concerns fall outside my scope.

2. Emotional Discomfort May Occur

Discussing difficult topics can be challenging—but it is often part of growth.

3. Limits of Confidentiality

I must share information only when legally required, such as:

Risk of harm to self or others

Suspected child abuse or neglect

Court orders

Medical or safety emergencies

4. Not Suitable for All Clients

This service is not appropriate for acute crisis, unsafe environments, or clinical psychiatric needs.

5. Technology Risks

Though I use secure, encrypted systems, virtual care has risks such as internet outages or privacy challenges.

6. No Emergency Response

I do not provide crisis or emergency services.

7. Potential for Miscommunication

Virtual communication sometimes makes it harder to read non-verbal cues. Clarifying questions are always encouraged.
